BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 10. New airport in Turkey’s Istanbul served over 15.8 million passengers in April 2022, the Turkish Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure told Trend.
According to the ministry, in the reporting month, nearly four million passengers were served on domestic flights, and more than 11.8 million passengers on international flights.
Meanwhile, 113,750 flights were carried out through the new Istanbul airport, including 28,889 - on domestic lines and 84,861 - on international lines, the ministry noted.
The volume of cargo transported through the new Istanbul airport in April this year made up 701,342 tons, of which 52,214 tons accounted for domestic traffic, and 649,428 tons - for international transport, the ministry said.
Totally, the airport served over 37.1 million passengers in 2021, including nearly 10.6 million passengers - on domestic flights, and 26.5 million passengers - on international flights.
Meanwhile, 280,109 flights were carried out through the airport, including 80,115 - on domestic lines and 199,994 - on international lines.
The volume of cargo transported through the new Istanbul airport last year exceeded 1.4 million tons, of which 142,110 tons accounted for domestic traffic, and over 1.3 million tons - for international transport.
The opening ceremony of the new airport was held in Istanbul on October 29, 2018.
The third airport of Istanbul is located in the northern part of the city.
