President of the State Oil Company of the Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR) Rovnag Abdullayev received a delegation of Norwegian Statoil headed by Executive Vice President of Statoil on natural gas Rune Bjornnson, the company reported.
Abdullayev noted the important role of foreign partners, including Statoil, in the successes achieved in the oil and gas sector in recent years.
He also noted the importance of the Shah Deniz-2 to increase gas exports to the west.
Abdullayev regarded the "Joint Declaration on the South Gas Corridor" signed by Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliev and European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso as another success in ensuring Europe's energy supplies.
He said the position of SOCAR and its foreign partners are the same on the issue of transporting Azerbaijani gas to Europe.
The sides discussed cooperation between SOCAR and Statoil in the sphere of oil-gas projects' realization and diversification of ways of Azerbaijani gas export.
Abdullayev also received Total E&P's senior vice president for Continental Europe and Central Asia Michael Borelli.
