Iran is ready to play a "significant role" in resolving conflicts in the Caucasus, Iranian Foreign Minister Monuchehr Mottaki said in Tbilisi at a joint press conference with Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze.
"We are very concerned about security in the Caucasus region, it is a rather sensitive topic for Tehran, so we are ready to take part in solving the problematic issues in the region," said Mottaki.
Iran believes that regional stability is a guarantee of security in the region and hence its peaceful development, Mottaki said, noting that the principle of territorial integrity in this regard is "the main principle of cooperation between countries in the region."
Mottaki stressed that all contentious issues in the region should be solved exclusively by peaceful means.
"Iran believes that security, energy, transit are the cornerstones on which stability in the region must be built," said Mottaki.
In his turn, Vashadze thanked the Iranian foreign minister for his commitment to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Georgia.
