Angry Libyans Wednesday attacked the Russian embassy in the capital Tripoli in what appeared to be a retaliatory act, reported Libya's state news agency, citing security sources, dpa reported.
The attackers fired at the embassy compound and torched a car owned by the mission before fleeing the scene, added the sources.
No casualties were reported.
The attack was believed to be in protest against the killing of a Libyan air force officer by a Russian woman in Tripoli on Tuesday, according to the agency.
Local media claimed that the woman told investigator she had killed the 58-year-old man due to his support of the 2011 armed revolt that toppled dictator Moamer Gaddafi.
Libya's new leaders have been struggling to assert their authority and re-establish security in the North African country since Gaddafi was overthrown and killed in October 2011.
