Earthquake Hits Azerbaijan: No Causalities Reported

Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend E.Huseynli / An earthquake hit Shamakhi District of Azerbaijan on 23 August, Arif Hasanov, Director of the Seismological Service Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan, announced on 23 August.

The tremors with the epicenter 25km west of Shemakha city center, which is located 150km from Baku, reached 4 on the Richter scale.

Trend Regional Correspondent announced that the tremors were also felt in the Ismayilli District.

The last major earthquake took place in Baku in November 2000. Over the past year around 15 tremors have been reported in Azerbaijan which hit Yardimly, Lankaran, Guba, Astara, Shamakhi and other regions. In this period around 400 slight tremors have been registered in the territory of Azerbaijan.
