Thirty-Six Foreigners Arrested in Azerbaijan for Selling Narcotics

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend E.Huseynli / A total of 2,032 crimes were registered in Azerbaijan this year with regards to narcotics and as a result, 1,659 people have been held criminally responsible, the Head of the working group of the Commission to Combat Narcotics, Israfil Aliyev, reported to Trend.

According to him, three of the arrested people are under the age of eighteen, 404 are up to thirty years old, 1,252 are older than thirty, fifteen are workers, eight are office workers, one is an official, 1,542 are unemployed, fifty-nine are women, 1,600 are men, and 468 have a previous record. More than 960kg of various kinds of narcotics have been seized from the illegal trade and destroyed.

According to Aliyev, among those arrested are thirty-six foreign citizens, with more than 80kg of narcotics taken from them. The arrested foreigners include sixteen citizens of Iran Islamic Republic, six from the Russian Federation, sixteen are Georgian, and two - Ukrainian.

During this period, more than 348t of illegally cultivated narcotic plants were confiscated and destroyed.
