Azerbaijan, Baku, 17 June / Trend corr. J.Babayeva / The reason for a split within the Our Azerbaijan bloc, which represents opposition, is attributed to the support to a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections. The Fedain party has separated from the bloc due to the decision of the bloc to support the candidature of Eldar Namazov from the Public Forum For Azerbaijan. "The information released by the bloc to support Namazov does not reflect the positions of all parties represented in the bloc, including Fedains," the statement developed by the bloc told Trend . The statement was signed by Alimom Babayev, Chairman of the party.

Our Azerbaijan bloc was formed during the presidential elections 2003 to support the bashgan (leader) of the Musavat party, Isa Gambar's candidature. Later, Musavat separated from the bloc. Our Azerbaijan unites eight parties. The Bloc Chairmen Council made a decision to support Namazov's candidature in the upcoming presidential elections.

Namazov had been the President's Assistant and the Head of the President Secretariat from 1993 to 1999.

The presidential elections will be held in Azerbaijan on 15 October 2008.
