Azerbaijan, Baku, 27 August/ Trend , corr D. Khatinoglu, R. Agayev/ The confrontation between Russia and West prompted by the deployment of Russian troops in Georgia will cause disagreements among the permanent members of the UN Security Council when new resolution on Iran's nuclear program will be adopted. "Under such conditions the discussion of resolution on Iran in the UN Security Council is impossible," Vladimir Yevseyev, expert at the Analytical Center of Presidium of Academy of Sciences of Russia said to Trend .
As Tehran depreciates the West's set of proposals, 5+1 group discussed imposing new sanctions against this country in order to stop nuclear program of Iran. However, deployment of Russian troops in Georgia and West's support for Georgia in this conflict cooled West-Russia relations. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said last week that Russia can veto adoption of new resolution on Iran in UN Security Council.
Yevseyev, a research fellow of World Economy and International Relations Institute of the Academy of Sciences of Russia believes that at present, it is impossible to discuss new resolution against Iran in the UN Security Council for several reasons. "First of all, there are unilateral sanctions imposed by US and European Union. Besides, according to resolution 1703 of UNS Security Council, air and water ways and cargos can be checked up and there is no need for next resolution," the Russian expert stated.
He added that at the moment the relations with Russia and West are so tense that UN Security Council can not adopt resolution against Iran. "At present, the adoption of a new resolution on Iran is almost impossible until Russia-West and Russia-US relations stabilize to some degree," Yevseyev said.
Expert of Iran on Caucasus Hasan Behishtipur said that problems between Russia, Europe and US will have an impact on the discussions over new resolution on Iran.
According to Behishtipur, it is impossible to discuss new resolution on Iran in UN Security Council soon. "Preliminary discussions must be held to discuss new resolution on country with veto right. At present, Russia, Europe and US are not able to hold such discussions. I think, the resolution against Iran will not be discussed in near future," Behishtipur said to Trend by telephone from Tehran.
Vladimir Yevseyev believes that the negative side is that both presidential candidates in US -Barack Obama and John McCain will pursue a similar policy toward Russia.
According to expert, it is proved by the Obama's choice for the post of vice-president. One can not mention McCain, everybody is aware of its statement against Russia. Even if after certain period of time, the parties attempt to find a common ground, the aggravation of Russian-US relations will last long. Expert said one should not expect thaw in Russia-US relations ant time soon. "Under such conditions the best way is to maintain current relations and there is no need to speak about new resolution of UN Security Council on Iran. It is a matter of time," the Russian political expert said.
Behishtipur believes that Russia and US had very good relations. Russia took offence from West and US by deployment of US missile system in Europe and intentions of enlargement of NATO to Caucasus. " Moscow did not benefit from cooperation with West in the various areas. The cooperation with West did not suit national interests of Russia, besides it also posed threat for it," the Iranian political expert Behishtipur said.
