Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, Dec. 18/ corr. Trend E. Hasanov / The main purpose of project to strengthen Turkmenistan's legal potential, developed in the framework of mutual Program of EU - TASIS is assistance to further development and improvement of national legislative system.
Its presentation was recently held in Turkmen National Institute of democracy and human rights under the President with participation of the Foreign Ministry. The project is allocated for MPs, General Prosecution, Supreme Court, Institute of State and Law.
Significant stage of legal reform was a new edition of constitution adopted in September. So, stable guarantee of democratic rights and freedom of citizens, reliable platform of further successful state construction appeared, according to the Turkmen President.
The necessary factor to improve the legal base is to introduce norms of international conventions in national legal sphere, where Turkmenistan partakes. It is important to develop constructive cooperation with foreign, as well as European partners having experience of mutual work.
Human rights organization Amnesty International indicates existence of problems with citizens' rights in Turkmenistan. Persecution on political motives is fixed including activists of civil community. There are serious limitations in religious freedom and dependence of legal branch on executive power.
