The U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership does not provide an armed U.S. presence in Georgia, Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs Matthew Bryza told Trend on Feb. 6.
The U.S.-Georgia Charter was signed in Washington on Jan. 9. The document provides cooperation between the two countries in security, economy, development of democracy, culture.
"The US has no plans to establish a military base in Georgia. The U.S.-Georgia Charter on Strategic Partnership does not provide an armed U.S. presence in Georgia," said Bryza.
"Instead, the Charter outlines a strategic partnership on security cooperation and military reform, energy and trade, culture, and democratic reform," he said.
"The Charter can thus help Georgia undertake the reforms defined by NATO accession criteria," said Bryza.
