The Central Election Commission (CEC) registered two opposition referendum initiative groups - Movement for the Republic and Karabakh and the Republicans.
"The Republicans initiative group submitted 41,077 signatures; 40,337 were valid," CEC Secretary Natiq Mammadov said. "The Movement for Republic and Karabakh submitted 42,011 signatures; 41,430 were valid."
The CEC registered the governing New Azerbaijan Party's (NAP) initiative group, as well as the Shahar, Taraggi Huquq Va Demokratiya and Vatandash Jamiyyati groups. The Abad Kand and Azad Soz groups failed to pass registration.
Currently, 9 groups have been registered in Azerbaijan.
In late December, Azerbaijan's parliament passed a decision to hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.
The Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002
