The Azerbaijani Central Election Commission (CEC) will insist on installing Web cameras at polling stations on referendum day.

"The CEC is interested in election transparency issues. Transparency is a serious factor for assessing the election process. Web cameras must be used as a means to ensure transparency," CEC Secretary Natiq Mammadov told journalists on Feb. 19.

Web cameras were installed at 500 polling stations during the 2008 presidential elections in Azerbaijan. Web camera covered 10 percent of the total polling stations in the country.

Web cameras will be installed at polling stations during the referendum, Azerbaijani Communications and IT Minister Ali Abbasov said earlier.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend the Constitution.

The CEC registered the New Azerbaijan Party, Shahar, Tereggi, Huquq Va Demokratiya, Vatandash Jamiyyati, For Long-Term Development, Zaka, Movement For Karabakh and the Republic and Republicans initiative groups. The Abad Kand, Azad Soz, Azerbaijan People's Republic and Milli Istiglal groups failed to pass registration.

The Azerbaijani Constitution was adopted in 1995. Amendments and additions were made in 2002.
