Azerbaijani governing party's referendum initiative group to hold meetings

The governing New Azerbaijan Party's (NAP) referendum initiative group will hold meetings in the regions.

"The group has already held 370 meetings in different regions," NAP Deputy Executive Secretary Siyavush Novruzov told Trend .

The Public Television station allocated free airtime to the initiative groups on Saturdays at 06:15-07:45 and the Public Radio station on Wednesdays at 08:15-09:45. 

The referendum initiative campaigns were launched on Feb. 18 in Azerbaijan. The campaigns will end on March 16.

Azerbaijan will hold a referendum on March 18 to amend 29 articles of the Constitution.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) registered the New Azerbaijan, City, Progress, Law and Democracy, Republicans, Republic and Movement for Karabakh and Civil Society initiative groups. The Prosperous Village, Free Speech, Azerbaijan People's Republic and National Independence groups were not registered.

Members of the NAP's group are reviewing the amendments to the Constitution with electorates. Approximately 200-1,500 electorates will attend the meetings, Novruzov said.

The NAP was founded by Heydar Aliyev in 1992. The present chair of the party is Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, who has held the position for 14 years.
