On June 3, Defense Ministers of the CIS member states determined conception of military cooperation till 2015, RIA-Novosti quoted CIS Council of Defense Ministers Secretary Alexander Sinayski as saying at the end of the council's meeting.
"Given significance of development of integration processes in military sphere, the defense ministers identified conceptual approaches to development of military cooperation among the CIS member states till 2015 and approved plan for joint action by the armed forces of the CIS member states for 2010," Sinayski said.
He said the ministers also agreed to establish Coordinating Center for repairs and modernization of arms and equipment of the armed forces of the CIS countries.
"Defense Ministers discussed issues of cooperation between engineering troops of the CIS countries' armies, military science and military-technical cooperation. As part of the multilateral integration in the military and technical field, it was decided to create a Coordinating Center for repairs, spare parts, and modernization of weapons and military equipment of the CIS member states. A procedure for exchanging information on the requirements for spare parts to existing weapons and military equipment was also coordinated," he said.
He said the issue of the issue of providing with spare parts and repair of weapons and equipment is quite urgent for all CIS member states.
"In the first stage we will deal with this issue and with modernization in the next stage," he added.
The meeting focused on training and retraining of military personnel, particularly, operational forces of the CIS air defense and specialists in the field of physical training and sports for the armies of the Commonwealth.
