Azerbaijani pro-governmental party decides to participate at municipal elections independently

Pro-governmental party of Azerbaijan made a decision about independent participation in municipal elections.

"We will be able to achieve success at municipal elections without creation of bloc and cooperation with other parties upon decision of political cpuncil of the party," Vahdat party chairman Tahir Kerimli told Trend on June 8.

Municipal elections will be held in Azerbaijan in autumn 2009. Parliamentary elections will be held in autumn 2010. Earlier Municipal elections were held in 1999 and 2004.   

Presently, candidates of region and town branches of the party are being determined, Kerimli said. "We do not intend to intend candidates for municipal members in all districts. Our principal goal is to get seats in regions of Baku, the Apsheron peninsula, as well as municipalities of big towns and regions of the country," chairman of the party said.

Vahdat party of ex-chairman of Azerbaijani supreme court and ex-MP Tahir Kerimli was opposition till 2006. Presently, the party supports political course of authority.
