No official appeal made for ensuring security in Azerbaijani education institutions: head of ministry's department
Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept. 4 / Trend K.Zarbaliyeva /
The Central Security Department has not received any appeals from the security services to ensure security in Azerbaijan's secondary and high schools in the upcoming academic year.
"Perhaps the Education Ministry is planning to make the relevant appeal. However, the Central Security Department has not received any appeal from the security services to ensure security in Azerbaijan's secondary and high schools in the upcoming academic year, Head of the General Security Department of the Interior Ministry Madat Guliyev told Trend .
The question of security in educational institutions became critical after the tragedy that occurred in the Azerbaijan State Oil Academy on April 30. 12 people died and 13 were wounded as a result of shootings in the university by 29-year old Georgian citizen, Farda Gadirov.
In an interview earlier, Education Minister Misir Mardanov said that they had reached an agreement to provide special security services in secondary and high schools in Azerbaijan, beginning in the new academic year.
"I can assure parents that the government guarantees the safety of their children. Security will be provided in both public and private education institutions, Mardanov added.
A number of high schools appealed to the department to ensure their security and the department has signed contracts with them, Guliyev said.
If similar appeals are made from the Education Ministry, then the department has the capabilities to ensure security in secondary and high schools, Guliyev added.
The General Security Department of the Azerbaijani Interior Ministry ensures the security of approximately 8,500 state and private facilities.
