Kazakh Ambassador, Head of the Kazakh mission to the European Union (EU) and NATO, Eric Utembayev, held a meeting with Javier Solana, High Representative for the Common Foreign and Security Policy, Secretary-General of the Council of the European Union in Brussels, Press-Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Kazakhstan Ilyas Omarov told Trend .

Discussing the issues of further promotion of economic interests and development of close ties between the business communities of Kazakhstan and the European Union, Javier Solana accepted with interest the proposal on establishment of a permanent negotiating mechanism - a business group (council), Omarov said.

According Omarov, Utembayev noted that taking into account Kazakhstan's chairmanship to the OSCE in 2010, Kazakhstan intends to maximally use the dialogue in the EU-OSCE format regarding most urgent issues in contemporary international relations.

Solana mentioned the consistent and growing role of Kazakhstan in the Central Asian region in the solution of actual international issues. Solana stressed the importance of Kazakhstan as a future chairman of the OSCE, saying that the European Union, as a major component of the organization, welcomes the expanded dialogue with Kazakhstan in all directions, Omarov said.

The Kazakh diplomat also informed his interlocutor of the President's initiative to declare August 29 as the World Day of non-nuclear weapons, as well as develop a new universal treaty on general horizontal and vertical nuclear non-proliferation.

The sides discussed Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev's proposal to establish an international nuclear fuel bank in Kazakhstan under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency.
