Education Minister Nika Gvaramia opened a new school today in the Algeti village of the Marneuli region, which is heavily populated by ethnic Azerbaijanis.

Education Minister Nika Gvaramia opened a new school today in the Algeti village of the Marneuli region, which is heavily populated by ethnic Azerbaijanis.

Azerbaijani MP Ganira Pashayeva attended the opening ceremony.

Roughly 250 pupils will study in the school.

The school was built in 2009 as part of the government's Yakob Gogebashvili Program. Roughly 365,600 lari were spent on construction.

The new school was equipped with desks, blackboards, PCs and sports equipment.

Gvaramia awarded 18 graduates with gold and silver medals. He also presented PCs to 21 outstanding pupils as part of the My First Computer national program.

The Marneuli Municipality received 564,295 lari as part of the Yakob Gogebashvili Program in 2009. Public School No. 2 was built in Algeti, Public School No. 5 was repaired in Marneuli, and heating was installed in public schools in Shaumyan and Marneuli.

The Education and Scientific Infrastructure Development Agency will build a school in the Akhali village of the Marneuli region in 2010.
