Kazakh authorities discover cannabis fields

The Kazakh Interior Ministry found five fields where cannabis grows naturally in the Zhambyl province this week, the ministry's regional spokesman Rosa Kaldybekova told Trend.
"The officers found over five areas where cannabis grows in early summer. They seized over 2,000 bushes of marijuana," she said.
Kaldybekova added that cultivated poppy was also found in the Krasnaya Zvezda village July 4.
"Officers seized 33 bushes of poppy weighing over 3 kilograms from a resident's garden," she said.
According to Article 261.2 of the Kazakh Criminal Code, citizens may be imprisoned from three to eight years for illegally cultivating plants containing narcotic substances in large quantities.
Kaldybekova said seven drug smugglers were also arrested during the reporting period.
