Iran must demonstrate the peaceful nature of its nuclear testing as a Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban member, Executive Secretary of the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test Ban Treaty Organization's (CTBTO) Preparatory Commission Tibor Toth told Trend today.
"Iran has signed the treaty banning nuclear tests," Toth said at a press conference in Astana. "If it will be open and show the peaceful nature of its nuclear program to the world community, then this would be one of the ways to resolve the situation."
The United States and other Western countries accuse Iran of developing nuclear weapons for military purposes under the guise of a peaceful nuclear energy program. Tehran denies the charges, saying that its nuclear program is aimed solely at meeting the country's electricity needs. The U.N. Security Council adopted several resolutions in connection with the suspension of Iran's nuclear program. They involve the use of economic sanctions against Iran.
