The next, fifth plenary session of Senate of Oliy Majlis (the upper house of the Uzbek parliament) will be opened in Tashkent on March 25 according to the decision of Kengash (council) of the Senate.

The agenda of the Senate will consider a bill on amendments to the relevant articles of the Constitution. It gives the opportunity for political parties to nominate and dismiss the prime minister, to hear and discuss Prime Minister's reports on topical issues of the socio-economic development among MPs of the lower chamber and members of the upper house of the parliament, as well as to express a vote of confidence to the head of the government.

In late February, the Legislative Chamber of Oliy Majlis (the lower house of the Uzbek parliament) adopted a draft bill during the first reading.

Moreover, the senators will consider the laws of library and information activities, changes and additions to the laws on denationalization and privatization, mandatory insurance of civil liability of vehicle owners, radiation safety.

The Senate will also discuss amendments to some articles of the Criminal Procedure Code, the issues of Uzbekistan's joining the Convention abolishing the requirement of legalization for foreign public documents (the Hague, October 5, 1961), and ratification of the protocol on introducing amendments to the Agreement on Legal Status of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), which provides for granting diplomatic status to the staff of the organization.
