A new PACE Chairman will be elected during the January 2012 session of the organization. The role of PACE Acting Head, Movlud Cavusoglu, who was elected in January 2010, expires during this period, a source in the PACE told Trend today.

A new PACE Chairman will be elected during the January 2012 session of the organization. The role of PACE Acting Head, Movlud Cavusoglu, who was elected in January 2010, expires during this period, a source in the PACE told Trend today.

Frenchman, Jean-Claude Mignon, is expected to replace Cavusoglu. Mignon's candidacy was put forward by a political group of the European People's Party, represented in the PACE. Mignon is a member of the PACE Committees on Political Affairs and Monitoring, PACE Deputy Chairman, and a member of the Bureau. According to the procedure, the Chairman and his deputies will be elected during the session.

According to the agreement reached between PACE political groups, a candidate for Chairman of the organization is nominated by the rotation of political groups. At present, it is the European People's Party's turn to hold the post of PACE Chairman for two years. Mignon is its member.
