Ankara is preparing to demand compensation from Damascus for the RF-4E reconnaissance jet downed by the Syrian Air Force in June, the Hurriyet newspaper reported on Friday.

The Turkish Air Force F-4 jet departed from the Erhac airbase in the Province of Malatya on June 22.

The Turkish Foreign Ministry intends to appeal to Syria to demand compensation for the downed jet and two dead pilots in accordance with international law.

The report released on Wednesday following the investigation of the Turkish Military Prosecutor's Office says that a reconnaissance jet of the Turkish Air Force, crashed near the Syrian border in June, was hit by a Syrian anti-aircraft missile.

After the incident with the downed aircraft, the Syrian side stated that the aircraft was destroyed by the firing of Syrian antiaircraft artillery in the Syrian airspace.
