The change of power in Georgia has not created problems for the country's European aspirations, chairman of the Georgian Parliament David Usupashvili said after the meeting of the Euronest political committee on Thursday.
Usupashvili said that European friends saw that change of power in Georgia is possible without altering the course taken towards Europe and NATO.
He hoped the issue of formalising the association agreement with Georgia will be positively resolved at the Vilnius summit.
However, it is planned to solve many specific issues in this sphere, Usupashvili said.
"Work is also required at the legislative level," he said. "Parliament is preparing Georgian legislation to correspond to European in areas such as labour legislation, food security and migration."
Euronest is one of the most effective institutions through which Georgia can bring the country closer to Europe.
Head of the Euronest delegation, vice-chairman of the group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament Gunnar Hokmark also expressed the hope that Georgia will be closer to the EU.
Hokmark said that it is necessary for Georgian authorities to follow the requirements of an open and democratic society.
"I think the Georgian authorities respect the political standards of democracy and rule of law," he added. "I hope that Georgia will be closer to the EU and those people in power will follow the requirements of an open and democratic society in which the government and opposition respect each other."
