Azerbaijani opposition party head: Results of Tbilisi’s meeting prove National Council’s vainness

Azerbaijan, Baku, July 31 / Trend M. Aliyev /

The results of Tbilisi's meeting proved once again that the National Council is an unsuccessful project, chairman of the Azerbaijani Citizen and Development Party Ali Aliyev told Trend today.

He added that the National Council's promises made during the organizing period are not fulfilled.

"Almost two months passed after the establishment of the National Council," he added. "However, besides organizing the visits, we do not see other activity."

Any project that relies on foreign forces is doomed to failure, he said.

"Earlier some opposition forces of Azerbaijan preferred to be an instrument in the hands of the West," he added. "But they decided to become an instrument in the hands of Russia now and these countries keep the tool to trade with the authorities. Some Azerbaijani opposition forces have been acting in according with this scenario for many years and face the failure in every election. They chose a new direction and it is clear that Russian President Vladimir Putin did not provide them with the Kremlin's necessary support. But they expect that support."

At this stage, the interests of the U.S, European Union, Iran and Russia coincide with the interests of the Azerbaijani current authorities, because they want stability in the region, he added.

"The project which is not supported by Azerbaijani people can not be successful," he said. "Big countries can not fully meet the interests of the Azerbaijani people."
