Turkish Armed Forces opened return fire on the Syrian border on July 31, a statement posted on the Turkish Armed Forces website says.

According to the report, the fire was opened in response to attacks from the Syrian side on the Turkish border.

Fierce fighting occurred on the Turkish-Syrian border on July 18 between the Syrian wing of the terrorist organization PKK and militants of the extremist organization Jabhat Al-Nusra.

Earlier, the statement made by Turkish Armed Forces stated that Turkey is ready to respond to attacks and provocations from the Syrian side at any time.

Clashes between the government forces and the armed opposition have been ongoing in Syria for over two years. According to UN statistics, the death toll in Syria has reached 70,000 and nearly three million people are in need of humanitarian assistance. Syrian authorities say they oppose the well-armed militants.
