Chair of the American Jewish Committee’s (AJC) Board of Governors, Harriet P. Schleifer expressed hope that the new US administration will be a new chapter in relations with Azerbaijan.

“We appreciate very much the partnership between Azerbaijan and Israel and the importance of Azerbaijan for the US,” Schleifer told reporters in Baku Jan. 30.

“For us, American Jews, Azerbaijan continues to be a very important and friendly country,” she added.

Schleifer noted that during a meeting with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on Jan. 29, which lasted for more than an hour, a number of important issues between Azerbaijan and the US, Azerbaijan and Israel, as well as regional issues regarding the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and relations with Russia were discussed.

“There were very good discussions on many issues,” she added.
