BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 13. Azerbaijan will persist in its efforts to hold Armenia accountable, both through the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and arbitration processes, Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Aykhan Hajizada told reporters on the sidelines of COP29 in Baku, Trend reports.
Hajizada confirmed that these efforts are part of a long-term process that could take two to three years, although it is difficult to predict an exact timeline.
Earlier, the MFA of Azerbaijan reported that the country had filed objections to the ICJ's preliminary rulings on November 12, 2024, regarding the case involving the application of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination.
The ICJ has issued decisions on ongoing legal actions brought by Azerbaijan against Armenia concerning widespread human rights violations committed against Azerbaijanis.
Azerbaijan has been working for decades to hold Armenia accountable for the systematic ethnic cleansing of over a million Azerbaijanis. These efforts have not been in vain, as the court will now examine in detail the ethnic cleansing and other illegal actions carried out by Armenia during its decades-long occupation of internationally recognized Azerbaijani territory.
