Azeri President Plans to Visit Turkey

The President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev is expected to make a visit to Turkey. The President will participate in the Summit of the Heads of Turkic-Speaking countries, the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Turkey Zakir Hashimov exclusively informed Trend.

He stressed that the event will take place in Turkish city of Antalia. In addition, the event is expected to be attended by the heads of Turkey, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Kyrgyzia and Kazakhstan. Aliyev is expected to hold bilateral meetings with the President and Prime Minister of Turkey, as well as separate meetings with the heads of other countries participating in the Summit.

It should be mentioned that the 1st meeting, initiated by the former Turkish President Turgut Ozel, took place on October 30-31, 1992 in Ankara. The Summit became the first direct contact between the Turkish-Speaking countries. Following summits took place in 1994 in Istanbul, 1996 in Tashkent and 1998 in Astana.

The last meeting of the Heads of the Turkish-Speaking countries was held on April 8, 2000 in Baku.
