Conception of Reforming Euro-Atlantic Security is a Strategic Direction for Ukraine: Ukrainian President (video)

Ukraine, Kiev / Special Correspondent Trend E.Huseynov / "The conception of reforming European collective security and Euro-Atlantic security is a strategic direction for Ukraine," said the President of Ukraine, Victor Yushenka, on 14 June in Ukraine in his interview with Trend Agency and other several Azerbaijani TV channels.

Answering the question if the dynamic of reforms in Ukraine satisfies the Country's entrance into the NATO, the President said "we are proceeding from the issue that reforming the collective security model for the European contingent is a fundamental moment of response how to more optimally form security policy. Three years ago, Ukraine determined that its strategic goal is to join the European Union and Euro-Atlantic alliance and we are moving forward in this direction".

According to Yushenka, Ukraine's entrance into the NATO depends on the implementation of the domestic tasks regarding democracy, reformation of the economic standards, humanitarian and social spheres. According to him, there are many difficulties in this direction. It needs to form relevant rules, traditions and standards. It is a big internal work. In addition, according to Yushenka, it is very important for the Ukraine that each citizen and political force should know that the Ukrainian policy is aimed at joining NATO.

In addition, the Head of Ukraine highlighted the difficulty of the psychological plan, formation of separate issues in defense sphere, relevant departments, issues on democratic bloc. "We understand that high goals will be established to achieve them through eliminating relevant problems," he said.
