Delegations of GUAM Member-Countries to PACE to Come Together in Strasburg

Azerbaijan, Baku /corr. Trend S.Ilhamgizi / The delegations of GUAM member-countries to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will come together in Strasburg, said the Head of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE, Samad Seydov.

PACE's summer session will take place between 25 and 29 June. According to Seydov, the agenda will also include a look at attitudes towards national minorities. From this point of view, Azerbaijan may be sent as an example for other countries, Seydov stressed. In addition, the session will focus on anti-Semitism. According to Seydov, through the support of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, schools are constructed for Jews and synagogues operate in Azerbaijan.

Discussions will take place on the cancellation of the death sentence. "Up to now, the cancellation of the death sentence has been discussed in may Council of Europe participating countries. The problem has already been resolved in Azerbaijan," Seydov added.

"We will maintain the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict as the focus of our attention," he said.

The Azerbaijani delegation has already appealed to the PACE Ad Hoc Committee on Nagorno-Karabakh with regards to the efforts of the separatist regime in Nagorno-Karabakh to influence the peaceful negotiations.
