We Should Ban Hijab in Schools and Universities –Parliamentary Commission’s Chairman

Azerbaijan, Baku / Trend corr. I.Alizadeh / Wearing of hijab should be banned in secondary and Universities of Azerbaijan, MP Shamsaddin Hajiyev, the chairman of the permanent Parliamentary Commission on Science and Education Issues, said on 20 October.

"Muslims call it hijab and charshab. Other religions also have certain dresses. Should we wear these dresses to schools and Universities? We cannot allow wearing such dresses to educational institutions," Hajiyev said.

There has been observed problems due to hijab in Azerbaijan for recent months. Some students were not permitted to attend at classes in Baku, Sumgayit and Zagatala cities of Azerbaijan.

Such issues were included into the new bill on Education that will be considered by the Azerbaijani Parliament. The bill envisaged prohibition to wear hijab in educational institutions, the MP said.
