The ceremony of the 65th Anniversary of the adoption of the Constitution of UNESCO is an occasion to reaffirm to the international community UNESCO's commitment to peace and also to demonstrate the reforms being undertaken to face the issues of the 21st Century. Today the organization counts 200 Member States and seven Associate Members.
The ceremony will be held in headquarters of the United Nations Organization in Paris. The event will be attended by heads of the permanent missions and goodwill ambassadors, as well as the winners of honorary diplomas to "Artist of Peace" and "Athlete of the world", the preparatory committee told Itarr-Tass.
UNESCO, created shortly after the WWII, plays a role of chief keeper of the world's cultural heritage. Its five major programs aimed at development of education, the sciences and humanities, culture, communications and information.
The ceremonial meeting will precede with the meeting, which UNESCO Director General Irina Bokova will hold with the goodwill ambassadors. The composition of this international group includes Azerbaijani MP Mehriban Aliyeva, French astronaut Patrick Baudry, President of the World Association of Russian Press and Director General of ITAR-TASS Vitaly Ignatenko, the president of Asia Foundation, the Indian writer Madanzhit Singh and other prominent public figures, representing different areas of knowledge and creativity.
