Azerbaijan, Baku, May 27 / Trend I.Isabalayeva /

Azerbaijani Ecology and Mineral Resources Minister Huseyngulu Bagirov believes a moratorium for at least 10-12 years should be imposed on the sturgeon fishing in the Caspian Sea.

Bagirov said Azerbaijan also support the moratorium on sturgeon fishing.
Azerbaijan has been forwarding this initiative for several years, he said at today's press conference.
Bagirov said he supports the moratorium for at least 10 - 12 years. The number of sturgeon in the Caspian Sea could increase only during this period, Bagirov said.

Bagirov did not rule out that the poachers are engaged in the sturgeon catch inthe Caspian Sea.
No quotas will be distributed among the Caspian littoral states in 2011 in connection with the moratorium.
