BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 27. A scientific-practical conference on “Formation of academic and scientific bases for protection of green areas from climate change” was held in Sheki city within the framework of the ECOLEAD project “Strengthening the environment: role of educational and law enforcement measures,” Trend reports.
According to the information, participants in the conference honored the memory of National Leader Heydar Aliyev and martyrs who gave their lives for the freedom of the Motherland with a minute of silence, and then the national anthem of the Republic of Azerbaijan was sounded.
Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Kamran Aliyev, Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP), Roel Dona, and high-ranking officials of various state structures attended the conference.
Prosecutor General Kamran Aliyev talked about titanic activity carried out in the republic under the leadership of National Leader Heydar Aliyev, who has inestimable merits in the development of Azerbaijani people and statehood, solution of ecological problems, and improvement of the ecological environment.
Noting that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, worthy successor of National Leader Heydar Aliyev's political course, and thanks to his strong political will, Azerbaijan has taken the leading place in the fight against global climate change at the international level, the Prosecutor General informed of ecosystem projects implemented with direct participation and support of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva, as well as projects implemented for the survival of rare species of flora and fauna.
Addressing the scientific-practical conference, head of Sheki city executive authority Elkhan Usubov expressed satisfaction with the organization of the prestigious event in Sheki city, noting that the country at national, regional, and global levels contributes to the work on environmental protection, prevention of climate change, and the complex of activities carried out continues in the territory of Sheki city.
Secretary General of the International Association of Prosecutors (IAP) Roel Dona stated the importance of the joint fight against global climate change, noting that the experience of the Azerbaijani Prosecutor's Office in combating environmental offenses is valued by international and regional organizations, as well as the prosecutorial structures of other countries.
Deputy Prosecutor General Heydar Mammadov, Deputy Minister of Science and Education Idris Isayev, Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources Vugar Karimov, Vice President of the National Academy of Sciences Irada Huseynova, Rector of Baku State University Elchin Babayev, Chairman of Sheki Court of Appeal Nuru Guliyev, Head of Non-Criminal Proceedings Department of the Prosecutor General's Office Elnur Musayev, and Senior Prosecutor of the Department Shabnam Mammadova also addressed the conference.
Afterward, the conference participants viewed videos on environmental policy and the fight against environmental offenses in Azerbaijan and answered questions from media representatives.
