BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 18. At a recent meeting of the Azerbaijan National Olympic Committee (NOC), the four-year report was presented and approved, Trend reports.
In his statement to reporters, NOC Vice President Chingiz Huseynzade shared the plans for the upcoming four years after the first meeting of the newly formed Executive Committee (EC).
"Our primary goal is, of course, to prepare for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles and further develop the Olympic movement in Azerbaijan. We believe these games will be more successful for us. Our aim is to compete with a large team in the most prestigious event of the four-year cycle. That success would be achieved through close cooperation with national federations. We hope that the NOC and national federations will work closely together and reach new milestones in Azerbaijani sports. I am confident that under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, the National Olympic Committee will continue to thrive, and we will reach new sporting achievements," he added.
The new members of the NOC Executive Committee, elected during the IX Reporting-Elective General Assembly, include President Ilham Aliyev, Azer Aliyev, Chingiz Huseynzade, Zemfira Meftahatdinova, Farid Mansurov, Elnur Mammadli, Faig Garayev, Alla Hasanova, Nazim Huseynov, and Namig Abdullayev. New EC members include Chingiz Huseynzade, Olympic judo champion Mammadli, and former volleyball player Hasanova.
The National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan was founded in 1992 and acknowledged by the International Olympic Committee in 1993. Azerbaijan participated in the Olympic Games as an independent nation for the first time in 1996 and has since sent athletes to every subsequent Olympic Games. The primary objective of the National Olympic Committee of Azerbaijan is to promote and safeguard the Olympic movement in Azerbaijan in accordance with the Olympic Charter.
