BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 14. Masdar, the UAE’s clean energy leader, has signed two agreements with Indonesia’s state-owned electricity company PT PLN (Persero) to advance floating solar projects in Indonesia, Trend reports.
The first agreement, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), covers the development of a floating solar power plant at the Jatigede Dam reservoir in West Java, with work set to begin this year and completion expected by 2027. The second agreement explores expanding Masdar’s Cirata Floating Photovoltaic Power Plant, which started operations in November 2023.
The agreements, signed during Indonesian President H.E. Prabowo Subianto’s state visit to the UAE, align with Indonesia’s goal to add over 75GW of renewable energy by 2038 as part of its low-carbon transition.
Masdar’s Cirata project currently powers 50,000 homes and reduces carbon emissions by 214,000 tonnes annually. The company is also exploring the expansion of Cirata’s capacity after regulatory changes allowed more water coverage for renewable energy use.
Indonesia’s numerous natural reservoirs make it an ideal location for floating solar power. Masdar has increased its global renewable energy portfolio and aims to reach 100GW by 2030 while becoming a major green hydrogen producer.
