Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb. 24 / Trend , N. Ismayilova / A new head of the World Bank's second project on improvement of water supply system and sewerage in small towns of Azerbaijan is expected to visit Baku in early March.

The project covers 21 regions: five of them are in Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and the rest in the direction of Kurdamir, Ujar and Zardab.

The WB allotted $ 230 million to the first water project which covered 22 regions.

According to the WB experts, quality of water supply and sewerage infrastructure in many towns of Azerbaijan is unsatisfactory because of the limitation of investments for their maintenance and continuous exploitation. The condition of water supply and sewerage negatively affects health and increases the degradation risk of ecological environment. The first project will provide al least 700,000 people with water and sewerage service. The project is expected to complete till 2012.
