Residential area per capita to be increased by 47 per cent in Azerbaijan till 2030

The Greater Baku Development Plan envisages bringing a residential area in the capital up from the current 17 to 25 square metres per capita until 2030, chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Abbas Alasgarov said at the 34th session of the Intergovernmental Council for Cooperation in the construction industry of the CIS member-states in Baku today.

The Greater Baku Development Plan envisages bringing a residential area in the capital up from the current 17 to 25 square metres per capita until 2030, chairman of the Azerbaijani State Committee for Urban Planning and Architecture Abbas Alasgarov said at the 34th session of the Intergovernmental Council for Cooperation in the construction industry of the CIS member-states in Baku today.

"According to the plan, the housing stock of the capital will increase by 30 million square metres to reach 65 million square metres by 2030," he said. "The population of the city during this period will increase to 3.325 million."

He added that the city's road network will increase by hundreds of kilometres. The number of polluted lakes and pollution in the city will be reduced.

"All these issues will be discussed at a public hearing on the Greater Baku development plan in November," he said. "Representatives from the World Bank, state agencies and the public will attend these discussions."
