Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov.10
By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:
The number of Azerbaijanis visiting Iraq has reached 15,000 people as of early November 2017, Charge de Affairs of Iraqi embassy in Azerbaijan Fadhil Al-Shuwaili told Trend Nov.10.
“The number of Azerbaijanis visiting Iraq has increased from 13,700 people in 2015 and 14,300 in 2016 to roughly 15,000 visitors as of early November 2017 and the number is growing,” he said.
Al-Shuwaili believes that this is a result of ensuring stability in Iraq after the country’s security forces gained victories in the fight against the “Islamic State” (ISIS, aka IS or Daesh) terrorist group.
He pointed out that the recent developments in Iraq are crowned by the victories of the Iraqi security forces with the backup of the international coalition against ISIS.
“Of course, liberation of Iraqi lands from ISIS control will have a positive impact on ensuring security and stability all over Iraq,” added the diplomat.
As for ensuring the safety of tourists visiting Iraq, it is controlled by the country’s authorities and many countries have commended Iraq’s performance in this regard, said Al-Shuwaili.
Further, the diplomat pointed out that Iraq welcomes foreign investors to carry out reconstruction projects in the areas liberated from ISIS.
“We will be pleased to see Azerbaijani companies investing in our country,” he added.
