Approaching European standards in the field of cable production in Georgia has led to the fact that local cable production has increased in the country, said the head of the Gruzkabel company Edisher Mamaladze, Trend reports with reference to commersant.ge.

According to him, the cable production was aligned to European standards, hoping to have Georgian products eventually enter the European market.

"Obligations related to a cable's fire resistance of a cable were to come into force by 2020, but we've introduced them already in 2018. This led to a higher level of security of the local market from low-quality products, including the imported ones," said Mamaladze.

He said the company is ready to introduce new quality standards ahead of time, without raising prices.

Mamaladze also dismissed the idea that introduction of international standards negatively affects local producers.

On the contrary, the increase in quality leads to the development of local production, he said.

“Today, three companies are manufacturing cables in Georgia, and have partially substituted the imported goods," he said. "If it wasn't profitable, no one would've opened these plants, since production of cables requires big investments. In short, the increase of quality leads to development of local production, and this has a positive effect on the national currency,” he said.
