Iran is expected to increase the production of petrochemicals to 133 million tons over the next 8 years, in accordance with programs set out for 2021 and 2025, CEO of Iran’s National Petrochemical Company (NPC) Behzad Mohammadi stated at a press conference, Trend reports referring to ILNA.

According to him, numerous projects have been prepared for this, and some progress has been made in each of them.

Mohammadi went on to say that such levels of production will help make $37 billion annually.

"As a result, Iran's petrochemical industry will be the second major sector after the oil industry," he said.

Mohammadi went on to say that the production of Iran's petrochemical industry will reach 100 million tons by 2022 (by March 21, 2022), and the revenues made by Iran from its petrochemical industry will reach $25 billion, in contrast to the current amount of $17 billion.

It was also noted that the industry currently employs 108,000 people and this figure is set to reach 123,000 people in 2021.
