The overseas agriculture would provide Iran agricultural needs lower than the global price, said the head of Iran Overseas Agriculture Association.

"Iran is one of the countries that has a dry climate and to protect food security it is required to develop overseas agriculture," said Ali Rezvanizadeh, Trend reports citing ILNA.

Iran's overseas agriculture includes 500,000 hectares of land which is less compared to other countries.

"There has been little attention paid to protecting country's food security in past two years. Some have claimed fluctuation in foreign currency rate and sanctions caused lack of attention to this field while studies on investment opportunities indicated having smart plans would lead to optimal results," he noted.

"Investing 40 percent of country's agricultural imports costs on overseas agricultural products would lead to food security. By investing 8 percent of costs used for agriculture imports the country would have food security and could export products in the region after five years," Rezvanizadeh added.
