(autoinsidernews) - Despite unveiling its first hybrid-electric vehicle, Nissan is still skeptical about the market for hybrid technology. Nissan is only planning to offer its Altima Hybrid in just eight states, but if demand warrants it, It's very possible to expand to other parts of the U.S, said marketing boss Jan Thompson, reports Trend.
What we don't want to do is create a glut of these (vehicles) where we have to heavily incentivize them, added Thompson.
But Thompson did acknowledge that interest in green vehicles is growing among American motorists. The concern for Nissan is, What happens to hybrids as gas prices go down?
Nissan CEO Carlos Ghosn has long said it is still too early for mass-market hybrids.
