Azerbaijan, Baku, Sept.16. / Trend E.Ismayilov /

In October, SOCAR (State Oil Company of Azerbaijan) and Russia's gas monopoly Gazprom will sign a contract on supplies of Azerbaijani gas to Russia, a senior official of SOCAR said on Sept.16.

"The contract on supplies will be signed in October," the source said.

According to the source, currently the company conducts repair work in the Azerbaijani sector of the pipeline, which will run from Azerbaijan to Russia.
"We have one pipe bend, which is located behind the gage site. It should be dismantled and set up till the gage unit. It is necessary to conduct the work on the reverse of the pipeline and establish a new metering unit ", the source said.

The condition of the pipeline is assessed as normal. The capacity of the pipeline is 5 billion cubic meters per year. In 2010, SOCAR will supply to Russia 500 million cubic meters of its own gas, but if there is a need, in 2011 the volume will be increased, the same source added.

The source did not mention the cost of the Azerbaijani gas delivery, saying that the price is commercial with reference to oil products.
Earlier, SOCAR and Gazprom signed a memorandum on understanding, under which was reached the agreement on the launch of negotiations on the harmonization of conditions of sale and purchase of Azerbaijani gas, with deliveries starting from January 2010 to the Azerbaijan-Russia border (DAF).
