Turkmenistan is not only a significant strategic source of hydrocarbons, but also increasing investment opportunities, U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary for South and Central Asia, George Krol, said in Ashgabat on Nov. 18.

The senior U.S. diplomat made a speech today at the annual Oil and Gas Conference, which takes place in these days in the Turkmen capital. In his view, the growing presence of international oil companies in Ashgabat confirm the fact of increasing investment opportunities.

"The U.S. considers energy security as a priority issue, and Central Asia is an important region in the global energy map," said Krol. According to him, the U.S. looks forward to continued collaboration and cooperation with Turkmenistan on a wide range of issues, not limited to energy.

"The rich hydrocarbon resources of Turkmenistan may provide diversified supply for a large number of states. In its turn, Turkmenistan has the opportunity to expand its base of customers through the development of alternative export routes," said Krol.

"Comprehensive reforms announced by President Berdimuhamedov, after their full implementation, should make the economy of Turkmenistan more competitive and improve their business to attract more international investors, including investors from my country," said Krol.
