Kazakhstan cuts power consumption in 2009

In 2009, Kazakhstan produced about 78.4 billion kWh of electricity, which is less by 2 percent compared to 2008. The country's power consumption fell by 3.3 percent to 77.9 billion kWh, the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) reported.

In 2009, Kazakhstan produced about 78.4 billion kWh of electricity, which is less by 2 percent compared to 2008. The country's power consumption fell by 3.3 percent to 77.9 billion kWh, the Kazakhstan Electricity Grid Operating Company (KEGOC) reported.

"The country has been recording the crisis's impact on power consumption since late 2008. The decline lasted for 10 months of 2009 (a decrease of 5.9 percent). In November the figure was marked by an increase of 8.6 percent compared to the same period in 2008," the company said.

According to the KEGOC, in 2010, growth in electricity consumption could reach 5.5 percent up to 82.2 billion kWh and the production -7.1 percent up to 84 billion kWh.
