Azerbaijan and Egypt are looking to expand their cooperation in the energy sector, Egyptian Petroleum Minister Amin Sameh Samir Fahmy said in Baku today.

He added that Egypt has the necessary hydrocarbon infrastructure for transporting, docking and storing bulk energy cargo. He suggested that the two countries expand their cooperation in the oil refining industry and selling refined petroleum products.

Meanwhile, Azerbaijani Industry and Energy Minister Natig Aliyev noted that some Azerbaijani oil is already processed at Egyptian refineries thanks to SOCAR Trading.

Fahmy stressed that Egypt wants to see Azerbaijani oil and gas companies among the 50 oil and gas companies operating in the country.

Over 60 new fields have opened in Egypt in recent years, he said. In this regard, cooperating with Azerbaijan to explore these fields is vital.

Fahmi underscored that Azerbaijan and Egypt could also cooperate in Iraq and Libya, as well as several other African countries.
