Azerbaijan today and as in the future will be one of the most important energy suppliers to Europe, which will greatly contribute to the development of cooperation between the ruling Moderate Party MP and a member of the Swedish Parliamentary Committee on European Affairs, Gustav Blix, said in an interview today with Trend.
Blix said Sweden is trying to be a creative part in integrating the European energy market and making sure that we have interconnectors that will make sure of our security and that we can be less dependent on a certain number of different suppliers.
Our challenge now in Europe is to integrate and to liberate our energy market because that will be beneficial for our ability to be a good customer and also, in that sense, from a climate perspective, to promote energy sufficiency," he said.
According to him, it is important for Europe to work with a large number of energy suppliers.
Regarding the pipeline projects of energy supplies to European markets and, in particular, the Nabucco project, Blix said that "important steps have been taken in this direction. The Nabucco project is a step in ensuring European countries by several energy suppliers," Blix added.
"But it also has to make political and economic sense that it is a visible project that will generate and increase efficiency and benefits for both Europe and the countries in the region," he added.
According to the U.S. State Energy Information Administration (EIA), gas demand in Sweden amounted to 1.16 billion cubic meters compared to 0.85 billion cubic meters in 2008.
