In 2011, SOCAR Energy Georgia, which represents the interests of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan in Georgia, supplied more than 1.7 billion cubic meters of gas to the Georgian market, SOCAR said on Thursday.

About 564.05 million cubic meters of the total volume of gas supplied to the Georgian market accounted for profit gas, while more than 1.15 billion cubic meters - for social gas, the report said.

Azerbaijan and Georgia signed an agreement in November 2008 that creates the possibility of intensifying SOCAR's activity on the Georgian gas market over the five years after 2009. According to the memorandum, SOCAR created the subsidiary SOCAR Georgia Gas to implement the project. It provides some gas consumer groups (social groups) determined by the Georgian government.

SOCAR and the Georgian government signed an agreement to transfer 30 gas distribution networks covering different regions in Georgia in late December 2008.
